After a 10-year stint with our previous pastor, who recently retired, Heritage Baptist finds itself searching for our next head pastor. Biblical qualifications & functions

The qualifications for pastoral service are found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7;  2 Timothy 2:15, 22-25;  Titus 1:5-9. The functions of pastors are found in Acts 15:4, 6, 22; 20:28;  Ephesians 4:11-13;  1 Timothy 1:5; 4:7, 15-16; 5:17-22;  2 Timothy 1:13-14; 2:14-17, 22-25; 4:1-2, 5; Titus 1:9;  Hebrews 13:7, 17; James 5:14; 1 Peter 5:1-4.

Principle Function

The pastor of HBC is to be the spiritual leader of the church. He is to live the Christian life as the example for those whom he leads. He is responsible to the Lord and the church to primarily proclaim the gospel and teach Scripture. He is also expected to engage in pastoral care and provide supervisory leadership in all areas of the church.

Personal Life Requirements

The pastor of HBC is to live the Christian life in all faithfulness according to scripture and sanctification of the Holy Spirit; raising his family in like manner. He is also to be devoted to prayer, careful study of scripture, and handling of it in exegetical and expositional preaching and teaching. He is to proclaim the gospel and lead the church in spreading the gospel to the church and surrounding community. Finally, he is to live a life of repentance.

Church Obligations

  • Oversee church staff in accordance to church policy
  • Coordinate and execute worship services, preaching, and teaching
  • Provide care for members and visitors
  • Conduct various types of counseling; such as, grief, marital, pre-marital, etc. All in accordance with church policy and marriage declarations
  • Perform baptisms, baby dedications, weddings, etc. all in accordance with church policy and marriage declaration
  • Work with deacons and attend their meetings
  • Lead church business meetings
  • Provide a vision for evangelism within the community
