Gary Walton
Senior Pastor
Pastor Gary surrendered to full time ministry in 1986, was ordained to ministry in January of 1988, and has served in Southern Batpist churches. Pastor Gary graduated from Shepherd School of Ministry which is based in Kansas City, Mo. in 2006. Pastor Gary's wife, Hazel, has served by her husband's side wherever God has called them. They have been together since high school. They have two adult children, Amy and Scot also residing in the Pomme de Terre lake area.
Pastor Gary came to New Liberty Baptist Church in Oak Grove, MO in 1994 as the Student Pastor, leading the youth ministry for 3 and 1/2 years before being sent out as a church planter. After leading an NLBC church plant in Belton, MO, God called Pastor Gary back to NLBC to serve as senior pastor in August 2004. Through almost 20 years of service to NLBC Pastor Gary witnessed the church grow spiritually healthy and transition into a stronger Bride of Christ.
After sensing God's call to step out on faith, Hazel and Gary resigned and moved to a new home in Pittsburg, Mo. in June of 2015. God was up to something. After a couple of months of searching God's heart, Pastor Gary began preaching again in local churches. By God's providence Pastor Gary meet Joe Cappedge DOM of the Mid-Lakes Baptist Association in Bolivar Mo. Joe began to send out Pastor Gary's resume and recommending him to local churches.
In October 2015, the pulpit committee of Heritage Baptist Church began interviewing Pastor Gary. Pastor Gary was voted on and hired November 8, 2015.
Pastor Gary leads our church to focus on sharing our testimony and raising disciples. You'll find Pastor Gary loving and serving in the Bolivar community and sharing the love of Christ. If he's not at church, driving a school bus or refereeing high school ball games around the area. He loves spending time outdoors or with his family. Gary enjoys racing, the Royals and the Chiefs!
Pastor Gary's prayer for the Heritage Baptist is Ephesians 4:12 'For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.'
